I read a report published by NBK that talks about consumer spending in Kuwait. What I found interesting was the relationship between family creation (i.e. marriage) and the state of the economy. Apparantly during the crisis, people were less motivated to get married.
I will leave you with the part of the report that talks about family creation:
“The positive sector trend was also visible in Kuwaiti household formation, which accelerated during the first half of 2010. As consumers see prospects for employment and income growth improving, they are more likely to establish new households. Growth in Kuwaiti households accelerated to around 3.7% in the first half of 2010, compared to 1.9% during the second half of 2009. Growth has moved closer to, but remains below, the 4.3% ten-year average rate of growth in household formation among Kuwaiti nationals.”
