The National Bank of Kuwait is arranging a seminar entitled “How To Live With The Black Swan” presented by the one and only Dr. Nassim Taleb, the author of mind blowing book “The Black Swan”.

“Nassim Nicholas Taleb is a literary essayist, epistemologist, researcher, and former practitioner of mathematical finance. A specialist in financial derivatives, he held a “day job” in a lengthy senior trading and financial mathematics career in a number of New York City’s Wall Street firms, before starting a second career as a scholar in the epistemology of chance events to focus on his project of mapping how to live and act in a world we do not understand, and how to come to grips with randomness and the unknown —which includes his black swan theory of unexpected rare events. Taleb has also, in the wake of the economic crisis that started in 2008, become an activist for a “Black Swan robust society”.” wikipedia.

The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable is a New York Times Best Seller. Dr. Taleb’s books have more that 2.5 million copies and translated into 31 languages, making him the most widely read and most translated essayist in history. If you haven’t read the book, I really recommend you do. It’s a must!

I’m really fortunate to get an invitation to his seminar and really looking forward to it!

I’ve heard him speak on a couple of TV interviews in London last year. Sadly, He is such a dull speaker but also controversial. He is not as grapping as Nouriel Roubini, a well-known economist who predicted the credit crisis back in 2006, this guy (I heard him in a seminar back in October 2008).

Anyway, don’t expect alot of markets outlook or predictions. He’ll keep saying anything could happen and don’t read or hear the media, it will distract you from the truth!

Enjoy it Oikonomia and I look forward to read the back to office report :-)

There is nothing new about the speech delivered by Dr. Nassim Taleb in NBK Kuwait . All what he says is already known in academic books and has been revealed by specialized magazines and journals . But I have bad feeling towards those who could not predict the financial crises before it could happen . This means that all CEO in the whole world together with experts in this field are lacking the knowledge or they are participating in creating these crises .

During this crisis, there has been various figures cashing on by giving speeches such as Dr. Nassim Taleb and Dr. Nouriel Roubini (Dr. Doom). I am specifically not thrilled by Mr. Taleb and communicated this to my friend Oikonomia. The guy literally reprinted his old book, “Fooled by Randomness” and called it “The Black Swan” when the financial crisis hit. Moreover, his strategy isn’t practical and that’s why he “teaches it” instead of “trading” on it!
